LAS VEGAS · CRATING GUIDE
Choosing a Custom Crating Service in Las Vegas
Choosing a custom crating service is easier when you compare providers against the same shipment brief. Give each one the item's dimensions, weight, photographs, destination and deadline, then ask how its proposal addresses the risks and handling requirements.

A low price or an impressive project photo tells only part of the story. Look for a clear packing approach, defined responsibilities and realistic assumptions about pickup and delivery.
Look for experience relevant to your item
Ask about work with similar dimensions, weight and vulnerabilities. An artwork crate, an electronics shipment and a machine base can involve different support and contact requirements.
- For art and antiques, ask how sensitive surfaces and fragile projections are assessed.
- For electronics, provide the manufacturer's transport instructions.
- For medical equipment, clarify preparation and post-delivery responsibilities with the supplier.
- For heavy machinery, confirm that reliable lifting and attachment information is available.
Project photographs can support the discussion, but do not treat them as proof of a tested load rating or a specialist certification.

Ask the provider to explain the packing method
Request an explanation of where the item is supported, how movement is controlled and which materials contact it. Discuss any moisture, temperature or other sensitivity separately.
Terms such as custom or museum quality should lead to a description of the actual work. If the buyer, manufacturer or carrier requires a specific packaging standard or test, ask for evidence that the proposed service can meet it.
Compare scope rather than headline price
Make sure the quotes cover the same tasks. An empty crate, a fully packed shipment and on-site crating are different services.
- Identify whether measurement and design work are included.
- Confirm the packing materials, internal supports and closure approach.
- Separate collection or on-site work from workshop packing.
- Ask who records finished dimensions, gross weight and packing photographs.
- Clarify freight booking, destination unloading and any return-trip services.
Ask what is excluded and what changes could affect the price. Review carrier liability and any coverage separately rather than assuming the crate purchase insures the contents.
Verify export and repeat-use requirements
If regulated wood packaging will cross a border, ask how the relevant treatment and marking will be handled. APHIS export guidance is a useful reference for the U.S. process. The destination and cargo documents still need their own review.

For a reusable crate, ask how repairs, changed loads and worn internal packing are assessed. Sustainability or sourcing claims should be backed by specific evidence, not inferred from the use of wood.
Check scheduling and communication
Confirm when the item must be ready, when crating is expected to finish and how pickup will be coordinated. Ask what happens if measurements or the shipment configuration change.
The receiver should know how to unload and open the package. A provider that asks about access, equipment and the unpacking sequence is addressing the full job rather than only the enclosure.
PLAN YOUR CRATING
Request a clear project proposal
