How Much Does Custom Crating Cost in Las Vegas? What Your Quote Should Include
Custom crating cost in Las Vegas depends on the item, the protection it needs and the work included in the quote. A wooden enclosure for a sturdy component is a different job from packing a fragile display or building a crate that will travel through several trade shows.

A useful estimate should explain what you are buying and what remains outside the price. This guide covers the main cost factors, the details to send your crating provider and the questions that make competing quotes easier to compare.
Start with the item’s complete dimensions and weight
Crate size affects material requirements, while weight and weight distribution influence the supporting structure. A tall, lightweight display and a compact, heavy machine can require very different designs.
Measure the item at its widest, longest and tallest points. Include feet, handles, brackets and other protrusions. Note any parts that can be removed, and check with the manufacturer before disassembly.
Distinguish the item’s dimensions from the finished crate’s outside dimensions. Similarly, distinguish the item’s weight from total packed weight. The latter figures matter when arranging freight.
If measurements are approximate, say so. Ask whether the estimate requires final measurements or an inspection before the design and price are confirmed.
Understand the protection included inside the crate
The enclosure is one part of the packaging. Interior materials and labor may include surface protection, cushioning, blocking, bracing or separate compartments.
Describe what could be damaged:
- A finished surface that should not contact packing material directly
- Glass, screens or delicate edges
- A moving component that needs restraint
- An uneven load or part requiring support
- Equipment with manufacturer-specified packing instructions
Ask the estimator to explain the proposed protection. “Custom crate” alone does not describe how the item will be secured.
FedEx’s crate-packing guidance identifies size, materials, customization and construction quality as price factors. It also treats freight transportation as a separate cost question. That distinction helps when comparing a basic enclosure with a complete packing proposal.
Consider how often the crate will be used
For a one-time shipment, the priority may be suitable protection and straightforward access. A reusable trade-show crate may need a different approach to closures, removable panels and interior organization.
Ask for options based on your actual schedule. How will the crew open the crate? Can they replace the cushioning correctly? Where will loose hardware go? Will future shipments contain the same items?
Compare the purchase price alongside expected repacking work, repairs and storage needs. Reusable features should serve a practical purpose. They do not automatically make every project less expensive.
Our custom-crate services provide a starting point for discussing the item and its intended use.
Explain where the packing work will happen
Site conditions can change the scope of a Las Vegas crating project. An item ready at a warehouse dock presents different access requirements from equipment inside a showroom or artwork in a building with restricted loading hours.
Share the pickup or packing location, doorway dimensions, stairs or elevator restrictions, and available working space. Mention whether a forklift or loading dock is available. Ask who supplies any required lifting equipment and whether those services are included.
For on-site work, clarify travel, setup and packing labor. Provide the required completion date early and confirm availability before booking the carrier.
Separate the crate price from the total shipment budget
Ask the quote to distinguish:
- Crate design and construction
- Interior protective materials
- Packing and loading labor
- On-site work or local pickup and delivery, if included
- Freight transportation and any applicable carrier extras
- Storage, unpacking or disposal, if requested
For convention shipments, confirm show material-handling charges separately. For overseas shipments, give the destination and ask which wood-packaging requirements must be addressed in the estimate.
A crating estimate does not establish the full transportation budget unless transportation services and their assumptions are included. Compare the complete scope before treating two prices as equivalent. For repeat shipments, our guide to comparing total logistics costs also covers repacking, storage and return freight.
Compare the same scope before choosing
Send each provider the same photographs, measurements, weights, destination and deadline. Then ask:
- What is included, and what would cost extra?
- Is this a preliminary estimate or a confirmed quote?
- What information could change the price?
- Who packs the item and supplies handling equipment?
- When will the shipment be ready, and how long is the quote valid?
It is also worth asking whether a full enclosure is necessary. Where suitable for the item and route, a purpose-built pallet or skid may be an option. Have the provider explain the protection and handling tradeoffs.
GET A CLEAR SCOPE
Get a quote based on your shipment
Contact Crates of Las Vegas with an item description, photos, dimensions, weight, location, destination and required ready date. If a measurement is unknown, identify the gap.
A clear scope makes the price useful. It lets you compare protection, labor and service responsibilities before committing to the shipment.
